INTERVIEW: Lauren Conrad Attends Lucky Magazine's #LuckyFABB in New York!

Wearing a sleek chignon and her signature cat eye-liner, Lauren Conrad popped by our FABB conference yesterday afternoon to chat with our very own Beauty and Fashion News Director Jean Godfrey-June. In between fielding questions on everything from what happened to Speidi ("I don't know! You'd probably know better than me!) to her early success ("You get there faster but then you have to fight harder for respect"), the former reality star shared her best career advice and style secrets. Here's what we learned:

On why she doesn't mind her hectic schedule:
"When you do multiple things you love, it doesn't feel like work. When you enjoy it so much, you don't mind being busy.""I went into the industry and I all I wanted to do was make clothes. A lot of my branding has come from stubbornness—I knew what I liked. I knew what I wanted to do."

On launching a successful blog:
"You have to pay attention. You have to constantly think, 'What do people like? What are they paying attention to?' And look at the numbers every month."

Her thoughts on the "business casual" dress code:
"I don't know what that is. Business-y? Should I wear a pencil skirt?"
Some of her favorite blogs and websites: "Who What Wear, Pop Sugar. I go to Martha Stewart a lot, too, for recipes. And around the holidays for decorating tips and little crafts. I print them out and then never do them.…"

On choosing a career path:
"Just do something that you love. Because there will be days you don't love it. And if you are doing something you aren't passionate about, it's going to be REALLY hard on those days."

On bad advice she's received in the past:
"I come from a reality show, so yes, I've been given bad advice, It's always like, 'Okay! You're on in 15 minutes!' I really disliked being told to back product I didn't love or being put into a category I didn't belong in."

The one beauty product she could never live without:
"Um, water? If I literally could only have one product it would probably be a cover up or tinted moisturizer, which isn't very exciting."
On starting her own cosmetics line: "I would, if I could do it correctly. I've actually spent a lot of time researching beauty products, how they are produced and how they are sold. And the reason there are so few truly amazing products is because they must be done just so."

On how her style has evolved:
"Years ago I used to just tear our of magazines, usually red carpet pictures. But more recently it's been older photos. Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot—I've really been more attracted to those iconic beauties."

On how her parents taught her to manage money:
"I used to get taxed on my allowance. Yeah, I've been taxed since I was a little kid. And at the end of the year I had to pick a charity to donate my taxes too."
