Lauren Conrad's Purple Hair Was An April Fools Prank!

The Internet -- and beauty mavens -- went wild when Lauren Conrad posted a picture of herself
with purple hair on April 1, 2014
, but it was all just a gag in honor of April Fools' Day.

Conrad's hairstylist Kristin Ess confirmed the prank in hilarious fashion via Instagram on April 2. "To get this exact shade of purple, we went out and gathered rare amethyst stones. Next, we ground them up by hand until they turned into a fine powder. Then we added 2 pinches of grape koolaid. Mix that in a bowl with 2 oz. of mermaid tears. Apply all over and let it sit for 16 hours. Lather, rinse, repeat. #aprilfoolsyall#shedoesntevenlikepurple," Ess jokingly wrote.

Although the picture of the Paper Crown designer looks believable enough, it had Us doubting the authenticity since Conrad recently said that she's just not into the purple hair trend favored by the likes of Nicole Richie, Kelly Osbourne, and Ireland Baldwin. "I'm not a big fan of purple as a color!" the recently engaged star, 28, told Us Weekly in early March. "It looks great on [other people] but not me."

Lauren Conrad Dyes Her Blonde Hair Pastel Purple!

Unless this is some kind of April Fools' joke, Lauren Conrad has taken a purple plunge. I hope it's not a joke—her hair, as always, looks perfect. Like, I want to go to the drugstore right now, buy some purple dye and color my hair in the bathroom. Sorry the sinks are stained purple, coworkers, but this was a hair emergency—bye boring blonde, hello pretty purple!

It was only a few weeks ago that we were complimenting LC's short, springy 'do and now she's taken the look to an entirely different level. This pastel purple isn't the first unnatural color Lauren has tried out—she's gone both pink and multi-color before—but it's the first time she's committed to having the shade for more than a weekend. In a blog post, she explains that while she normally uses temporary dye, this time she went with semi-permanent, which lasts for six to eight weeks. A bold move, but one I respect (and envy), since it looks so good. Pastel shades like Lauren's are extremely hard to maintain, but if anyone can do it, it'll be Lauren Conrad.
